2:30 PM
AS A RESULT OF THE TERRIBLE DEVASTATION FROM
HURRICANE KATRINA, MANY FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS
DISPLACED FROM THE AREA HAVE TEMPORARILY MOVED INTO
NEIGHBORING STATES, INCLUDING NEW MEXICO.
UNFORTUNATELY, EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBERS, FRIENDS, AND OTHERS
MAY NOT BE AWARE OF THIS
RELOCATION AND, LACKING EFFECTIVE NOTIFICATION, FEAR FOR THE
SAFETY AND WELL-BEING OF
THOSE ORIGINALLY LOCATED IN THE GULF COAST REGION.
IN ORDER TO ENSURE THAT VICTIMS OF HURRICANE

NOTIFICATIONS OF CONCERNED FRIENDS AND FAMILY MEMBERS, IT IS
IMPORTANT THAT PERSONS
TEMPORARILY MOVING INTO NEW MEXICO REGISTER WITH THE
AMERICAN RED CROSS. THE RED CROSS
IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CONDUCTING NATIONWIDE DISASTER WELFARE
INQUIRY ACTIVITIES, AND WILL
ASSIST IN THE LOCATING OF MISSING FRIENDS AND RELATIVES
THROUGH A VOLUNTARY
REGISTRATION PROCESS.
FOR PERSONS TEMPORARILY RELOCATING INTO
LINCOLN COUNTY, IT IS REQUESTED THAT THEY CONTACT
THE SOUTHWESTERN CHAPTER OF THE RED CROSS AT 505.526.2631,
OR 888.922.2631.

Spokesman Dean Cushman of the Federal Emergency Management
Agency says the hotline is a joint effort of the Texas
Department
of Health and Human Services and the Texas radio markets.
He says calls will be answered by 26 information and
referral
agencies. He also says the number will be displayed on signs
to be
posted at the Texas-Louisiana border.
